Experiential Learning in Action at Global Institute of Property Studies

On Saturday, 26th April, diploma students from Global Institute of Property Studies had the exciting opportunity to visit a construction site belonging to the National Housing and Construction Company (NHCC).

This site visit was an integral part of our Diploma in Real Estate Management program, specifically connected to one of our core courses - Introduction to Building and Construction. This course is designed to not only familiarise students with the fundamental principles underpinning the real estate industry but also to prepare them for our more advanced Sustainability in Real Estate course.

Today, sustainability starts right from the design stage. We must design for efficiency, functionality, and environmental impact. Our students were able to see this theory in practice during the visit to the site in Naalya. They experienced the different phases of construction first-hand, from areas still at the pre-construction stage to foundations being laid, all the way to fully completed buildings.

This visit provided our students with a deeply insightful experience. They had the chance to engage directly not only with our internal team of expert engineers but also with professionals from both Dott Services (the contracted construction company) and the National Housing and Construction Company (the project owners).

At Global Institute of Property Studies, we emphasize experiential learning because real estate is a highly practical field. It is not enough to learn through theory alone. Even though many of our students are already active practitioners, nothing compares to seeing classroom concepts come alive on a real site. These experiences help solidify learning in ways that lectures alone cannot.

We are passionate about building the next generation of real estate professionals - individuals who are prepared to meet Uganda's rising housing demand and contribute meaningfully to the real estate boom poised to transform our urban centres.
